Siddiqui opined that research work of scholars could open new vistas for rapid progress and prosperity of the country and improvement of living standard of the common people.
Expressing his satisfaction over participation of young scholars in large numbers, particularly women, in research activities, he said it was a good sign that a number of female scholars of the university were conducting research in many important areas.
Earlier, the meeting discussed a number of cases pertaining to registration of scholars for M.Phil and Ph.D research work in the faculties of sciences, arts, commerce and business administration, social sciences, education and Islamic studies. It decided that research associates, working in different departments as a teaching faculty, would be allowed after two years' experience in teaching to get admissions to Ph.D research programme.
The meeting also allowed two candidates of chemistry, six of analytical chemistry, four of education, two of information technology, five of biotechnology and one each candidate of zoology, Pakistan studies, area study, Islamic studies and Sindhi departments to get registration in Ph.D. research programme.
It approved the names of scholars to work as supervisors/examiners for 32 candidates undertaking M.Phil and Ph.D research programme in various fields.
The meeting also discussed about scholarships announced by the university for teachers from affiliated colleges, and decided that the candidates interested in research programme should apply through proper channel.
